Type of Aid: Grant
Amount: up to $7,500 annually to a maximum of $15,000 within a 10 year period
Eligibility Requirements: RAMP provides funding to eligible low-income wheelchair users who are homeowners, tenants, or people living with family that meet income requirements so that they can modify their home for easier and safer living. Both temporary and permanent modifications are eligible, and the grant is available for both on-reserve and off-reserve applicants. More than one wheelchair user per home may apply for the grant.

Type of Aid: Medical Equipment Cost-Share
Amount: Albertans pay 25% of the benefit cost to a maximum of $500 per individual or family per year. Low-income Albertans and those receiving income assistance do not pay the cost-sharing portion
Eligibility Requirements: AADL helps Albertans with a long-term disability, chronic illness or terminal illness to maintain their independence by providing financial assistance to buy medical equipment and supplies for those not already covered by a comparable assistance source. Eligible low-income residents may be exempt from cost-sharing.

Type of Aid: Monthly Living Allowance (plus health & personal benefits)
Amount: $1,685/month
Eligibility Requirements: AISH provides a monthly living allowance and access to other benefits for individuals over 18 but not yet eligible for Old Age Pension who suffer from a severe handicap that limits their ability to earn a living. AISH works in combination with the AADL to help provide access to medical aid equipment.

Type of Aid: Grant, Interest Free Loans, Cost-Share
Amount: Depends on Situation
Eligibility Requirements: ESS is a financial need based program that provides full grants, cost-share, and interest free loans for individuals with disabilities and special needs who require vital equipment not available through government or community resources. Easter Seals is considered a last resort after all other venues are exhausted.

Amount: The maximum assistance available is $5,105 in a benefit year.
Eligibility Requirements:

  1. be enrolled in the Alberta Seniors Benefit program or submit a Seniors Financial Assistance application
  2. be 65
  3. be an Alberta resident
  4. be a Canadian citizen or have been lawfully admitted to Canada for permanent residence
  5. not have voluntarily deferred the receipt of Old Age Security.
